DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto announced an agreement to cross license weed and insect control traits in corn Thursday. Monsanto will license Dow Agro-Sciences' new Enlist Weed Control System, a 2,4-D herbicide-tolerant trait for use in field corn. In return, Dow AgroSciences will license Monsanto's third-generation corn rootworm technology, which is currently under development.

The agreement paves the way for introduction of next-generation products that build off the current SmartStax platform by the end of the decade, pending regulatory approvals. The companies first forged an agreement in 2007 to develop SmartStax hybrids that contain eight genetically modified ...
