OMAHA (DTN) -- Two agriculture and chemical industry groups say safety can be improved at facilities storing ammonium nitrate within the current system without the federal government playing a bigger oversight role.

The Obama administration created a working group consisting of numerous federal agencies in response to the West, Texas, fertilizer explosion last April that killed 15 people and injured 160. The blast damaged or destroyed a local school and nursing home, numerous residential properties and city water and sewer infrastructure.
