OMAHA (DTN) -- Cellulosic ethanol production using corn stover in Iowa is expected to give a boost to the rural economy while maintaining proper nutrients in the soil, scientists with USDA and Iowa State University said in a report on an ongoing study of stover removal on Iowa cornfields.

Cellulosic ethanol's sustainability came into question recently when a University of Nebraska-Lincoln study concluded that carbon emissions from using corn stover for cellulosic ethanol could be higher than greenhouse gas emissions from gasoline.
