Inspection Proposal Questioned

OMAHA (DTN) -- USDA has not "thoroughly evaluated" pilot projects that test new poultry and hog inspection methods focused on improving food safety, despite ongoing rulemaking to create an inspection system based on those pilot projects, according to a new Government Accountability Office report released Wednesday.

A U.S. senator asked the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Wednesday to call off the rulemaking in light of the GAO report.
