New EPA Rules Could Cut Ethanol Imports from Brazil

Importing ethanol from Brazil into the United States could become much less profitable next year, if a proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency to expand documentation and transportation rules to non-U.S. producers takes effect. Apart from auditing, documentation and transportation requirements, foreign producers and importers also would have to post a higher bond with EPA to offset any potential penalties for violating the rules.
