Final Farm Bill Clears House

OMAHA (DTN) -- The farm bill conference report passed the House of Representatives Wednesday morning with a strong bipartisan vote of 251-166, ending a long, contentious debate in the House over the five-year farm law.

The Agricultural Act of 2014 that had failed in the House last summer garnered support for final passage with 162 Republican backers and 89 Democrats. Sixty-three Republicans voted against the bill, as well as 103 Democrats.

The bill reflects a huge victory for House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., who was whipsawed by his own party throughout much of 2013 over the costs of ...
