House to Debate, Vote on SNAP

WASHINGTON (DTN) -- The House of Representatives will debate and vote Thursday on the Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act, a bill that would cut the food stamp program by $39 billion over 10 years, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., announced late Wednesday.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has said that after the nutrition bill is considered he will appoint conferees on the farm bill. Anti-hunger advocates and Democrats have severely criticized the nutrition bill, but it is likely to pass with Republican votes, in part because the Senate farm bill provides only $4 billion in cuts and there ...
