Groups Sue Over Horse Slaughter

OMAHA (DTN) -- Opponents of horse slaughter are taking the same approach as groups against biotech crops in using a regulatory environmental lawsuit in their attempts to block horse slaughter from returning to the U.S.

The lawsuit comes as USDA has reopened the door to rebuilding the meatpacking industry for horses while, at the same time, the administration is trying to re-close it. Last week, USDA approved an inspection permit for Valley Meat Co. in Roswell, N.M.
