Talk Grows on Farm Bill Split

GLENWOOD, Iowa (DTN) -- While talk of splitting the farm bill gains more traction with conservative groups, a veteran Iowa congressman said Monday he doesn't think farm or nutrition programs would muster enough votes on their own to pass if the farm bill were divided.

Republican Rep. Tom Latham is in his 19th year in Congress and is considered close to House Speaker John Boehner. During a stop on a district tour Monday, Latham told DTN he doesn't think the effects of dividing the farm-and-food coalition have been fully considered.
