Ethanol Futures Hit 2-1/2 Year High on Transportation Issues

U.S. ethanol futures rose to $3.02 per gallon on March 24, up $1.71, marking the highest price since July 2011 on the Chicago Board of Trade for the predominantly corn-based fuel.

This marks a near 60% increase in ethanol futures prices as the harsh winter and increased crude oil rail shipments are creating rail car shortages to move ethanol from plants to refineries on the coasts.
