Farm Credit Administration Reins in Some Farm Credit System Lending Practices

The Farm Credit Administration board of directors has voted to withdraw a proposed rule that opponents say would have let Farm Credit System (FCS) institutions continue to undertake "non-farm lending activities under the guise of investment programs." In practice, the vote will result in pilot program loans approved after 2004 being wrapped up effective Dec. 31, 2014. The loans were made as part of the Investments in Rural America program.
