House Republicans Propose 'Supercommittee' to Negotiate Federal Fiscal, Budgetary Issues

House Republicans believe they may have hit on a sure-fire way for the federal government to resolve what appear to be intractable financial issues: appoint a bipartisan, bicameral working group that would negotiate a temporary spending measure to reopen the government and increase the nation's borrowing authority. Some on Capitol Hill already have dubbed the proposed group "Supercommittee II," referencing a similar group that was appointed two years ago.
