Administration Ups the Ante in Face-Off with House Over Debt Ceiling

Speaking at an event in suburban Washington on Thursday, President Barack Obama told his audience that the delivery of Social Security checks would be delayed unless Congress votes to increase the nation's borrowing limit before the government runs out of money on Oct. 17. These and similar dire predictions can be expected as part a major lobbying effort by the administration to convince House Republicans to boost the debt ceiling.
