NRDC Calls for Reform of Federal Crop Insurance

Extreme weather during the 2012 growing season has resulted in record-breaking federal crop insurance payments of $17.4 billion, according to USDA data and a new report by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The NRDC report also claims that much of the 2012-crop losses could have been prevented using so called "water-smart" strategies.
