Legislation Would Reinstate Agricultural Disaster Assistance Programs

Three senators have introduced legislation that would reinstate a number of disaster programs that expired Sept. 30, 2011, the end of 2011 fiscal year, and extend those programs through both the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years. Congress had allowed those programs, which benefit ranchers, fruit producers, orchardists and nursery tree growers, to expire at the end of FY11 as a way to find funds for other farm-related spending.
