Council, USDA Program Expands Philippine DDGS Market

The U.S. Grains Council is working to revitalize the Philippine market for U.S.-produced dried distillers grains with solubles, aided by USDA's Market Access Program, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

Interest in U.S. DDGS in the Philippines had dwindled when prices soared last year, virtually ending its use by end-users and importers in the country. However, once prices return to more desirable levels, MAP will help encourage continued interest in DDGS.

The U.S. Grains Council has also been working with local feed and livestock industries to stimulate interest and discuss nutrient specifications, quality parameters (color, mycotoxins, pellet-ability) and inclusion rates in various rations. The Council was successful in increasing Philippine imports of U.S. DDGS to 160,000 metric tons in 2013, a 13% increase over 2012. Despite challenges presented by DDGS' value relative to corn and soybean meal, the Council believes that market has room to grow.

The Council has found, through meetings with local importers and end-users, the preference of U.S. DDGS continues in the Philippines. Many end-users indicate they would be interested in conducting feeding trials using U.S. DDGS in poultry rations.
