Spot ethanol prices moved lower early Monday in key regional hubs of Chicago, New York, and California, tumbling on the back of weaker Chicago Board of Trade corn futures as lighter-than-expected rainfall in the Midwest could improve corn planting and ultimately yields and result in greater supply of ethanol said traders.
"The (ethanol) market is taking a slump today," said a trade source.
