Grains Council Promotes DDGS to the Philippines

The U.S. Grains Council is continuing its efforts to expand the market for U.S.-produced dried distillers grains with solubles in the Philippines, according to a news release on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

Exports of DDGS to the Philippines have increased over recent years, reaching a total of 164,526 metric tons in 2012. However, the Council believes there is still potential for growth.

Many layer farms in the South Luzon region already use DDGS at inclusion rates as high as 15%; however, the North Luzon region is still an undeveloped market.

Currently, DDGS are priced out of least-cost rations formulation, replaced by lower cost feed stuffs like corn and rice ban. However, Council consultant Adrian Morales recently promoted the use of DDGS and corn gluten meal in the North Luzon region to attract future sales when DDGS prices are more favorable.

Morales highlighted advantages of using U.S. DDGS, meeting with feed millers, large on-farm mix farmers, and broiler and swine farmers to answer questions about DDGS use.
