U.S. spot ethanol prices tumbled in early trade despite federal data showing supply eased last week, with traders saying the market remains saturated with product since a number of plants that were idled during the summer are coming back online, while global markets reeled from economic uncertainties. "There are still lots of product available... EU arbitrage is open but [there are] few buyers. Brazil arbitrage is closed and there's little activity," a trader said.
