Cash Ethanol Prices Boosted by Early Corn Futures Rally

Spot ethanol prices rose in early trade Monday on the back of a fleeting rally for Chicago Board of Trade corn futures linked to concern over the size of this year's corn crop.

Heavy rains over the weekend in the Midwest and Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac came too late for corn. Despite the optimism seen this morning, demand for ethanol blending is expected to ease with declining gasoline consumption after Labor Day. Margins are also expected to weaken further, according to trade sources.
