I think it is all related to future moisture and irrigation. Irrigating from wells is becoming an issue in our area given the amount of pumping done in 2012. We have had no significant moisture this winter and reduced pumping allocations are looking like a real possibility for next year. So given the fact that a large amount of the country is still in a significant drought situation an sub-soil moistures are depleated I think it is pretty bold to think that a national average in the 160's is possible.

Why, oh why do we continue this fools errand of trying to guess what the crop will be before the seed is even in the ground? As far as I'm concerned it is not possible to make any kind of reasonable estimate before mid July. I know all of the ag journalists need something to write about, but my goodness. Ed Arndt
