Can-Am Unveils a Mid-Range ATV and a 6x6 ATV

Can-Am has expanded its ATV line for the 2015 model year with two new budget-priced vehicles. The Outlander L 450 4X4 (38-hp) has a base price of $6,399. The Outlander L 500 (46-hp) begins at $6,999. Both vehicles target Can-Am's competitors by offering riders -- who may have not yet tried a Can-Am -- two highly competitively priced vehicles.

The Outlander L 500 is part of a new line of economy-priced ATVs Can-Am hopes will attract new customers.

A bit of extra incentive comes with both vehicles. Can-Am is offering five-year extended warranties on both the L 450 and L 500. They have no mileage limitations and both warranties are transferable. Can-Am says its warranty package is 10 times longer than what is found elsewhere in the ATV industry.

Both the L 450 and L 500 come with rear-mounted silencers, steel tubular racks (360 pounds of cargo capacity, front and back combined), and five-way preload, adjustable shocks. The Outlander L models come with either the new 38-hp liquid-cooled, single-cylinder Rotax 450 four-stroke or the Can-Am's proven 46-hp liquid-cooled, SOHC Rotax V-Twin 500 engine. The Outlanders can tow 1,300 pounds.

"Our engineering and design teams have done an outstanding job creating the affordable, class-leading Outlander L family of Can-Am ATVs," said Chris Dawson, vice-president and general manager, Global Sales and Consumer Experience in a release issued by the company. Headquartered in Quebec, Canada, Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) designs, develops, manufactures and distributes motorized recreational vehicles. Can-Am is one of the manufacturers operating under the BRP umbrella.

The Outlander L models come in several configurations: Outlander L 450 ($6,399), Outlander L 450 with DPS (Dynamic Power Steering) for $7,299, Outlander L Max 450, a two-seat version ($7,249) and the Outlander L 450 Max DPS ($8,149). The Outlander L 500 begins at $6,999, with DPS ($7,899), the Max 500 ($7,849) and the Max 500 DPS ($8,749).

Here are other features to note with the Outlander L 450 and Outlander L 500.

-- Continuously variable transmission with engine braking.

-- Dual-room, no-tools air box. The box is designed to capture and trap dirty air and then transfer clean air to the engine.

-- Ground clearance is 10.5 inches.

-- 2.9-gallon water resistant rear storage compartment.

-- 5.4-gallon fuel tank.

-- Multi-function digital gauge.

Outlander 6×6 XT. The 2015 Can-Am Outlander 6×6 XT is new to the North American Can-Am ATV lineup. The Outlander 6×6 is available with either the 62-HP Rotax V-Twin 650 or the hefty 82-hp, liquid-cooled, Rotax 1000 V-Twin.

Both Outlander 6×6 models were heavily influenced by Can-Am's four-wheeled SST G2 Outlander 4×4, but the 6x6 features a traction-enhancing, additional set of rear wheels.

The Outlander 6x6 features a dual-level cargo box with 700 pounds of total capacity, a front rack that holds up to 100 pounds of gear, 11 inches of ground clearance, 1,650 pounds of towing capacity with a two-inch receiver, and a 3,000-pound WARN winch standard.
